An overview
As part of the UK Scrappage Scheme, the Government are offering £1,000 towards any new Mazda when you trade in a vehicle that's at least 10 years old*. Mazda is fully behind this scheme as part of our commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and helping you save money. In fact, as of the 1st July 2009, we have increased our support on selected models, saving you up to £6,000 off the purchase price.
How Scrappage Works
In order to qualify for the scrappage scheme your vehicle must meet the following criteria:
- Your vehicle must be first registered in United Kingdom on or before 28th February 2000
- Your vehicle must be currently registered with DVLA to the registered keeper making the application, SORN vehicles are excluded from the Mazda Vehicle Scrappage Scheme.
- Your vehicle must have a current MOT test certificate
- The registered keeper must have a UK address
- You must be the registered keeper of the vehicle continuously for the preceding 12 calendar months before the order date of the new vehicle
- All passenger cars or small vans up to 3.5 tonnes are eligible
All you need to do is take your current vehicle to your nearest Mazda dealership with the following:
- V5 vehicle log book
- Valid MOT certificate
- Personal Identification

*The Government/Mazda scrappage payment applies to cars registered on or before 29th February 2000, or for vans on or before 28th February 2002 when traded-in against new cars or LCV’s. The new vehicle must be ordered between 1 January 2010 and 28 February 2010, and registered within 4 months of ordered date. Scrapped vehicles must have been registered to the purchaser for at least 12 months preceding the purchase of the vehicle, be taxed and insured and come with a valid MOT certificate. The registered keeper must have a UK address and the trade-in vehicle must be clear of finance. Terms and conditions apply. Subject to availability at participating dealers only, and subject to availability of funds from the Government Car and Van Scrappage Scheme.
Scrappage Incentive Scheme18 March 2010 - Gates announces the end of their Mazda Scrappage scheme 22 October 2009 - As announced by Lord Mandelson, the Scrappage Scheme has been extended. The £2,000 allowance will now include cars registered on or before 29 February 2000 (V registration or before) and vans registered on or before 28 February 2002 (Y registration or 51 plate or older). The Government has also released additional funds, so the scheme is available to a further 100,000 applicants. 28th September 2009 - The Government announced its intention to extend the Scrappage Scheme. We will be updating the site as and when further details are released so please return to this page: Wednesday 22 April 2009 - In the Budget Chancellor Alistair Darling announced the introduction of a Government Scrappage Scheme, a £2,000 allowance on vehicles aged 10 years or over. In exchange for scrapping your old vehicle and buying a new one the Government and Gates Group will contribute a total of £2,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle
