Countdown to Tyre Safety Month With
October’s Tyre Safety Month just a couple of weeks away, garages,
fleets, insurers and many other businesses are claiming their free
promotional materials to support this year’s campaign which will focus
on tread depth.
Drivers will be encouraged to stay safe and
legal by checking their tyre tread depth in an incredibly simple and
easy way with a 20p coin.

| Tyre Safety Month hits the airwaves Tyre safety will be one of the hot topics of conversation as Tyre Safety Month kicks off on 1st October.
A series of live radio interviews will be broadcast on both national and local radio stations throughout the day highlighting the importance of tyre safety and checking tread depth.

If your friends, family and colleagues would like to enter the draw, get them to register for the newsletter by visiting www.tyresafe.org. | Offset fuel duty rise with correct tyre inflation Hauliers, fleet operators and private motorists are being reminded that not only can they stay safe on the road, but they can also reduce the impact of the recent fuel duty rise by keeping their tyres correctly inflated.
According to research carried out by a major tyre manufacturer and member of TyreSafe, driving on tyres which are just ten psi under the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended pressure can increase fuel consumption by 2.5 percent.
By keeping tyres at their correct pressures, motorists can travel further on each tank of fuel, reduce their CO2 emissions and stay safer.
To read the full story, click here. | Cumbria Police hold tyre safety day Cumbria Constabulary recently held a tyre safety day to educate motorists about the dangers of defective and worn tyres and help cut the region’s road collision toll.
The event was held in Carlisle city centre and saw officers team up with TyreSafe to provide safety information about when, what and how to best check your vehicle’s tyres.
As well high levels of interest at the event, BBC Radio Cumbria interviewed PC Shaun McKeown to spread the message across the county. | Flat tyre link in motorbike death An accident which killed a 31-year-old motorcyclist in Wimbledon may have been caused by a flat tyre, an inquest has heard.
New Zealander Craig Paine died in December after coming off his motorbike and hitting a car while riding back from a gym session.
The inquest was told that the police investigation showed the bike’s front tyre had been deflated, which might have made it more unstable.

| Safety blitz on driving pays off A police operation to tackle menace motorists in North Allerdale has seen a “significant” reduction in accidents involving young drivers.
Officers from North Allerdale and the roads policing unit issued a number of fixed penalty notices and vehicle defect rectification notices to young drivers mostly in relation to speeding and defective tyres.
