iPod Connection Questions
  •   1. I cannot hear my iPod although I can browse it. What is wrong?
It might be possible that the iPod is not connected correctly. There are two different possibilities to connect the iPod:

a) With the Y-cable offered by your Ford-Dealer: Connect the one end of the cable to the dock-connector on the bottom of the iPod and the other two ends with the USB-port and the line-in of the car.

Advantage: There is a standard audio-output-level delivered at the bottom connector, which offers optimal sound.

b) With standard cables two connections have to be made: Connect the dockconnector on the bottom of the iPod with the USB-port of the car for controlling the iPod (standard iPod-USB-cable) and connect the headphone-jack of the iPod with the ine-in of the car for the audio-signal (3.5 mm stereo-jack, from any electronic-store). If only one cable is connected you can either control the iPod and will not hear anything or you cannot control the iPod using the car-radio/nav (but then using the iPods own control).

  • 2. Will the iPod be charged via USB?
Yes, it will be charged when the radio is switched on. Charging is done as it would be done via a PC's USB-Port. We recognized that some iPods with a completely empty battery are not chargeable via USB anymore.
  • 3. Why does the iPod not go to sleep when I switch off ignition?
There is still some activity in the car electronics (e.g. to control engine temperature). After up to 15 minutes the iPod display will be switched off and it will go to sleep.
  • 4. How can the audio-files on an iPod be browsed?
Browsing the iPod® using the radio/nav works similar to browsing on the iPod itself, i.e. sorting by Genre/Artist/Album.
  • 5. My iPod does not shuffle, what is wrong?
When iPod is the active source and shuffle is switched on a new internal shuffled playlist of the current selection will be created. Like the iPod the car display shows the position of the currently played title in this playlist. It will start by 1 and increase one by one. This might lead to the impression that the iPod does not play shuffled although it actually does.
  • 6. Is the iPhone (including iPhone 3G) supported?
Apple does not officially support the connectivity of the iPhone to your car, however our tests show that it works. When connecting the iPhone to the car, this accessory is not made to work with iPhone may display. Ignore this. Select NO if prompted to turn on Airplane Mode.
  • 7. Is the iPod Shuffle supported?
The iPod Shuffle can only be used as an external data volume (like a USB mass storage device). The size of the external volume needs to be adjusted via iTunes. Please refer to the iPod Shuffle owner's handbook.
  • 8. How can the audio-files on a device be browsed when connected via Bluetooth?
On a device connected via Bluetooth it is not possible to browse the files using the car-radio/nav. Current Bluetooth-technology does not support this functionality.
  • 9. How can the audio-files on a device be browsed when connected via USB?

It is possible to browse the complete file system of a USB device by folder in the same way the Windows-Explorer folder structure works. There are the following restrictions:

- 5000 folders per device

- 1000 items per folder
- 8 hierarchy levels

- The files are not sorted by metadata (ID3-tags) like Genre/Artist/Album. If connected devices do this on their own, the sorting is not reflected on the radio/nav. (This exception does not apply to the iPod.)

  • 10. Can the audio-files on a mobile phone be browsed when connected via USB?
This depends on how the files are stored on the mobile phone and which USB class is implemented in the phone. If the phone behaves like a Mass Storage Device (e.g. like a USB-stick) it can be browsed like a normal USB-stick. If the phone presents e.g. internal memory and a memory-card through USB the behaviour is entirely dependent on the phone make and model.

iPod®, iPhone®, iPhone 3G®, iPod Shuffle® and iTunes® are Trademarks of Apple Computers, Inc.

Here to help

The simple answer is YES!

Please let us know at point of booking your exact requirements.

Some points to note:

All our depots have courtesy cars and keep a record of availabilty.
