Ford has become the first vehicle manufacturer to make foam by recycling cast-off carbon dioxide.
Staying true to its eco-friendly ethos, Ford has developed and tested a way of creating foam and plastic from recycled CO2. It’s believed that these materials will be used in fitting vehicle interiors, in the seats and appliances under the hood, for example. It is thought that we could see the use of these materials within as little as five years’ time.
This new form of foam production is proving very promising. It is made up of 50 percent CO2-based polyols and is already meeting the tough standards set out by the automotive industry.
