Ford pulled the covers off its most powerful production Fiesta to date, the Fiesta ST200, at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The lively model is another product of the firm’s Ford Performance branch, which is also responsible for the incoming Ford GT racer that will compete at this year’s Le Mans 24-hour endurance race.
The ST200’s unbeaten performance figures will come as little surprise then, and with Ford set to offer power pack upgrades courtesy of Mountune, the potent new Fiesta should be a winner.
The ‘200’ moniker is a reference to the car’s 200PS (197bhp) power output which is up from the standard Fiesta ST’s 180bhp. The torque output of the 1.6-litre turbocharged EcoBoost engine also rises from 240Nm to 290Nm.
Impressive, but the ST200 isn’t limited to these figures. Ford Performance has added an ‘overboost’ function which will unlock 212bhp and 320Nm of torque in 15 second intervals. Power is sent through an ultra-responsive six-speed manual gearbox with a shorter final drive ratio. The engine/gearbox pairing helps the hot hatch to complete 0-60mph in 6.7 seconds as it surges towards a top speed of 143mph.
The differences between the current Fiesta ST and its more muscular ST200 sibling are not restricted to the engine bay. They include the Storm Grey paint finish which contrasts against striking 17-inch matt black alloy wheels. Behind them are motorsport-inspired red brake callipers, while inside, Recaro sports seats with silver stitching join silver seatbelts and illuminated tread plates.
The ST200 is clearly targeted at buyers who intend to take the hot supermini onto the track to unlock its full potential, as the option for a Mountune performance pack shows.
The Ford tuning specialists will develop a series of exclusive upgrades for the ST200 which will squeeze even more torque and power from its engine. The current Fiesta ST can be fitted with one of two packs: MP215 and MR230. The latter sees the car’s 0-60mph time drop below six seconds thanks to 340Nm of torque and 227bhp under the bonnet.
Other performance-enhancing additions include a custom-aluminium high-flow airbox with dual cold air feeds, a 2.5-inch cat-back exhaust, and high-performance alloy cooler. Expect similar features for the ST200.
Mountune packs are available for standard Focus models produced from 2011 onwards that are fitted with the 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine. Owners of Focus ST models from 2005 to the present day and any Focus RS from 2009, including the RS500, can also tweak their vehicle for added thrills on the road or track.
The new Fiesta ST200 will enter production in June, with the first deliveries arriving this summer. If Ford Performance’s latest creation has piqued your interested, you can pick the model up from Gates Ford across Essex and Hertfordshire. Enquire with us today to find out more.
