Gates invest in the future with the Ford Masters Apprenticeship Programme

Investing in the future

Our Vehicle Apprentice Technicians are pictured at Gates of Stevenage prior to heading off to Henry Ford Academy, Daventry. The apprentices, aged between 16 and 18 years old, are part of The Ford Masters Apprenticeship Programme and are based at our dealerships in Bishop’s Stortford, Harlow, St Albans and Stevenage.

The Ford Masters Apprenticeship Programme, managed and co-ordinated for Ford by Skillnet Limited, is an approved Apprenticeship Scheme combining hands-on workshop training with block release for college training and study.

Apprentices would typically attend the Henry Ford Academy in blocks of one or two weeks at a time and also spend time with Skillnet, gaining skills that will be useful in the job market - like working in teams, problem-solving, communication and using new technology. Back in the dealership, they work with our fully trained Ford Technicians gaining practical skills and hands-on experience as well as working in service and parts departments to fully understand all aspects of the aftersales departments.

At Gates, our apprentices are trained to the standards set by IMI (The Institute of the Motor Industry), the Sector Skills council for the Motor Industry, initially for two years. If successful, they then have the opportunity to their further their qualification by gaining an advanced, nationally recognised apprenticeship.
