Ford has dubbed its new EcoSport SUV a Smart Utility Vehicle, and it's clear to see why. The model hosts a range of intelligent features to make driving simpler and safer, and also arrives with a striking, robust styling finish. With all areas considered, the EcoSport is an entirely new breed of compact SUV.
The vehicle has classic aesthetics as seen through its high roofline, robust skirts and roof rails, and combines them with sophisticated details. A large chrome-trimmed grille sits at the front between fog lights and below halogen headlamps with LED signature lights, and seven stylish paint shades can be chosen from. In classic all-terrain fashion, as an option, the spare wheel can be mounted on the tailgate, and this rear door opens outwards rather than upwards to expose the large boot.
Interior storage space increases considerably when you fold one or all of the rear bench seats, and they double over to create a completely flat load space. There's also ample room for passengers when the front and rear is fully occupied, with excellent head and legroom for the tallest occupants. Leather upholstery is a luxurious optional extra, and the same material coats the three-spoke steering wheel and gearshift knob. With underseat and centre console stowage, there's a place for everything inside the EcoSport.
On the road, the EcoSport powers confidently onwards no matter what the conditions, and a choice of three engines enables this. The award-winning 123bhp 1.0-litre EcoBoost unit delivers the pull of a much larger powertrain but with excellent economy, as up to 53.3mpg combined is possible and just 125g/km of CO2 is emitted. The 110bhp 1.5-litre Duratec couples with a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox, and the 1.5-litre Duratorq TDCi is the cleanest and most fuel efficient, emitting 120g/km and with 61.4mpg combined.
The Ford EcoSport is available in three trim levels- Zetec, Titanium and Titanium S. All models are well equipped with standard features including air conditioning, power front and rear windows and Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance and voice control. There are also a number of clever safety systems including Intelligent Protection System (IPS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
