Technology in the Mustang Mach-E

Owning a Mustang Mach-E

There are many benefits when it comes to owning an All-Electric car like the Mustang Mach-E. For a start, there will be no more costly trips to the pumps, maintenance costs will be reduced and then there is the matter of zero emissions! For company cars drivers, the 0g CO2 attracts a Benefit in Kind rate of 2%, much lower than petrol and diesel cars~ .

What affects range?

Range can be affected by a number of factors - outlined below are three of the most common:

Heavy acceleration and high speeds

As is the case with Internal Combustion Engines (ICE), Electric Vehicles will use more power when accelerating fast and this in turn reduces range. Similarly, travelling at faster speeds will generate more wind and road resistance which will also have an impact on range.

Climate and temperature

Extreme temperatures have the potential to affect battery range. All EV's have less energy in cold temperatures due to battery cell chemistry. Heating and cooling the vehicle interior will also have an impact.

Regenerative braking

The process of regenerative braking can capture and reuse more than 90% of the braking energy, improving the efficiency of the battery and extending its range.

How to improve range

Below are some useful tips to help get the most range from your Mustang Mach-E:

Mustang Mach-E
  1. By using the FordPass App or the vehicle touchscreen, warm the cabin and the battery before you set off - while the vehicle is still plugged in.
  2. Keep the vehicle plugged in when parked, wherever possible. In cold weather, even trickle charging will help the vehicle as this will keep the battery temperature optimised.
  3. Avoid using high-power, fast charging (DC) after short driving distances. The battery needs time to heat up, under normal driving conditions in order to accept high charge power. It will impact charging performance if the battery has not had enough time to condition.
  4. Ensure tyres are at the correct pressure. If your tyres are under inflated, this can affect the rolling road resistance and increase drag therefore, impacting on energy consumption. Having the wrong tyre pressure will also affect grip in adverse weather conditions.
  5. Create a comfortable but moderate ambient temperature. It is much more efficient to maintain a consistent temperature rather than turning climate control on and off.
  6. Rather than using heating to warm the vehicle cabin, consider using the heated seats/steering wheel as these consume far less energy.

Important Information

*Based on Premium RWD Extended Range model with full charge. These figures were obtained after the battery had been fully charged. The Mustang Mach-E is a battery electric vehicle requiring mains electricity for charging. The electric range shown was achieved using the WLTP test procedure. Figures shown are for comparability purposes. Only compare fuel consumption, CO2 and electric range figures with other cars tested to the same technical procedures. These figures may not reflect real driving results, which will depend upon a number of factors including the starting charge of the battery, accessories fitted, variations in weather, driving styles, route profile and vehicle load and lithium-ion battery age and condition. WLTP Overall Range reflects a combined driving cycle and WLTP Extra High reflects motorway driving – both tests are conducted in controlled conditions with an ambient temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and no climate or electrical load. 372-mile WLTP Overall range reflects a combined driving cycle and 293-mile WLTP Extra High range reflects motorway driving – both tests are conducted in controlled conditions with an ambient temperate of 23 degrees Celsius and no climate or electrical load.

**Target Ford test data based on testing methodology using 1-ft rollout i.e., from a rolling start.

† Charging performance for a RWD Extended Range Mach-E using 150kW DC Charger. Charge power can decrease with increasing state of charge. Actual charge times and charge speeds can vary based on different factors (weather, temperature, driving behaviour).
