Ford recently stated their commitment to offering an electrified vehicle of every passenger vehicle it brings to market. In fact, they intend to have a range of eighteen electrified vehicles in Europe by the end of 2021. The latest models to join the current line-up are the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus.
Both models are available with EcoBoost Hybrid 48-volt technology; 125 PS and 155 PS power outputs available. But how does that work? Well, instead of a standard alternator, both vehicles have a Belt Driven Integrated Starter/Generator (BISG). This enables recovery and storage of energy that would usually be lost through braking/coasting and subsequently charges a 48V lithium-ion air-cooled battery pack. The BISG also enables Auto Start/Stop to work in a wider range of scenarios, including when coasting to a stop below 15mph.
The result? In the Fiesta, fuel efficiency is improved by 5% whilst the Focus sees an improvement of up to 17%.
What else is new? Not only is the Fiesta available with a Mild Hybrid powertrain for the first time, but it has also been equipped with new driver assistance technologies; namely Adaptive Cruise Control (which helps maintain a suitable driving distance from the vehicle ahead) and Stop & Go/Speed sign recognition (which monitors speed signs and can adjust vehicle speed accordingly). The Fiesta also has a FordPass Connect embedded modem which allows you access to a range of other helpful features as well as trurning your vehicle into a WiFi Hotspot for up to ten devices.
The Focus meanwhile sees a new variant added to the model line-up. The New Focus "Connected" will have an enhanced suite of standard technology designed to keep you connected on the go. You can enjoy the benefits of features such as wireless charging, Ford SYNC3, Adaptive Cruise Control, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera to name but a few! The perfect addition to a comprehensive range of vehicles, currently made up of Titanium, Active, ST-Line and Vignale specifications - with hatchback and estate bodystyles to choose from.
The Fiesta and Focus join the New Puma and All-New Kuga available as electrified passenger cars. There are Hybrid and Electric options available when it comes to the Ford Commercial Vehicle range too. The Ford Transit Custom and Ford Tourneo Custom are both available as Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles, whilst the Transit is available as a Mild Hybrid.
