Launched in 2012, the Ford B-MAX is a compact MPV that is as simple to drive as a Fiesta but offers even greater practicality, making it particularly ideal for busy families.
One of the B-MAX’s most useful qualities is the easy access it provides, thanks to wide-opening front doors and sliding rear doors. This makes getting in and out of the vehicle a very straightforward process, regardless of which compartment is being accessed. It’s particularly convenient for less able travellers or for safely installing the very youngest of travellers. The vehicle’s sliding doors are a boon in tight parking spaces too.
The B-MAX is a spacious car, and its tall roof ensures that there is plenty of headroom in particular. The driver is provided with a raised position, which, in combination with expansive windows, delivers good visibility. The vehicle features plenty of cubby spaces throughout, as well as standard equipment such as air-conditioning, DAB digital radio, Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation.
The B-MAX’s 318-litre boot space can swiftly be expanded to a 1,386-litre capacity, thanks to 60/40 split-folding rear seats. Not only that, the front passenger seat folds forwards, allowing items as long as 2.35 metres to be transported. Access to the vehicle’s boot is simple, due to a low load sill. The boot floor can be raised too, in order to make a perfectly flat surface – or lowered to optimise luggage volume.
This mini-MPV handles surprisingly well, thanks to its Fiesta foundations, which help to make it an agile performer, whether navigating twisting country roads or busy city streets. Entry-level models are typically installed with a 1.4-litre 90bhp petrol engine, which manages up to 47.1mpg and a 139g/km CO2 emission figure. Some models are specified with a 1.5-litre 95bhp diesel unit, which returns as much as 74.3mpg and emissions as low as 98g/km.
Euro NCAP has awarded the vehicle its maximum five-star crash-test rating. A wide range of standard safety features are included, such as six airbags and ISOFIX child-seat anchor points. Electronic Stability control, which minimises skidding on slippery surfaces, is one of many driver aids that feature as standard.
