Gates of Woodford were delighted to recently sponsor Haven House Children's Hospice's flagship "Sparkle Walk" event which took place on Friday 2nd September. More than 300 people joined this year's Sparkle Walk, a 10K event through Wanstead, South Woodford and Epping Forest. The event has raised a staggering £50,965 so far which is an incredible achievement!
The walk commenced at approximately 6.30pm from Christchurch Green in Wanstead. At the halfway point, participants were cheered on by the Gates Events Team who were at the special Sparkle Station in the grounds of the Hospice! - participants were rewarded with a glass of fizz as they crossed that all important finish line!
Reiko Murray, Haven House’s Community and Events Manager said: “What a fantastic night! Thank you to all who made the Sparkle Walk happen, including our sponsors Gates of Woodford, our amazing volunteers, hospice staff and all the incredible walkers. Reiko continues: “Seeing a pink takeover of our local streets was something quite spectacular. It really was a fantastic event which has captured the hearts of our community. We look forward to the next walk in May 2023 which will be in our 20th birthday year!”
The Hospice cares for around 450 seriously ill children and their families providing day care, over-night stays, end of life care, bereavement support, as well as life enriching activities such as sensory play, music therapy and physiotherapy. It relies on the generosity of the local community and supporters to keep its services running.
Gates meanwhile have a long history in the Woodford area, having been appointed as one of the first Ford Authorised Dealers back in 1920 when Frank G.Gates had premises in South Woodford. Anna-Marie Camp, Group Marketing Manager at Gates, said: “We were delighted to to support the return of the Sparkle Walk Event. As a family-owned and operated business, established in the Woodford area over 100 years ago, this event provided us with great opportunity for us to get involved in the local community and help raise significant funds for a charity that does so much for families in the Woodford area and beyond.”
