Frank G.Gates, an army officer returning home from the 1st World War with a baby son and an entrepreneurial spirit, decided that there may be a good future in automobile sales, service and repair. With the help of his father, Frank opened for business in South Woodford and was appointed as one of the first Ford Authorised dealers in 1920.
Now in 2022, having recently celebrated our Centenary, the Gates legacy continues with the business still very much retaining the family touch.
A century can fly by so fast - and it has. Since Gates began trading back in 1920, we’ve been through many changes and we’re still going strong. Since the company was established by Frank G.Gates in 1920, six generations of his family have contributed to their own family business dynasty including Frank's brother, all of his children, his daughter-in-law, his son-in-law, nephew, grand-children, great-grand-children, and great-great-grandchildren. Over 100 years later, Gates remain a business where family is at the heart of everything we do. Furthermore, there are currently over 50 members of staff in various roles across the Gates dealership network who have provided over 20 years of loyal service – a staggering total of nearly 4,000 combined years of motor trade experience with the company.
2020 marked the centenary milestone for Gates Ford and like many of the years throughout our illustrious history, it turned out to be an eventful one. With dealerships across Essex, Hertfordshire and London, Gates continue to provide motoring excellence to customers, businesses and the local community.
