Do you think you may be eligible and are interested in joining the Motability Scheme? Or perhaps you are an existing customer coming to the end of your current agreement and looking to renew. Either way, at Gates, we can help with any questions that you may have. We have put together the following information to cover some of the questions we are regularly asked.
Motability Scheme Applications and Placing An Order
You do not need to make an appointment to visit us, however, we would encourage booking an appointment where possible.
If you are in the final three months of your lease, we would encourage you to go ahead and place your order as soon as you’re ready. Please contact your local Gates dealership in the first instance and one of our friendly team will discuss your application with you further and introduce you to the Motability Scheme vehicles currently available.
Eligibility
There are several different mobility allowances that can be used in exchange for a new Motability Scheme vehicle. These include:
To qualify, you must be in receipt of one of the above, and have at least 12 months’ award length remaining.
If you’re wondering who can drive a Motability Scheme vehicle, the answer is that anyone in receipt of a qualifying mobility allowance can apply for the Scheme. If you’re aged 65 and over and receive any of the benefits listed below, you could be eligible for one of our Motability Scheme vehicles. Get in touch with our team today to find out more.
It isn’t just the recipient of the mobility grant that can make use of a vehicle through the Motability Scheme. Up to three named drivers can be added to the lease, and they can include family, friends, carers, or anyone else you trust.
The person the vehicle has been leased for does not need to be in the car for a named driver to use it. This means that you or the person you care for can stay at home while errands are made. All named drivers will need to sign a Statement of Responsibilities before the car is delivered to make sure they understand the terms of the agreement and are aware of misuse.
The Attendance Allowance cannot be used to fund a lease through the Motability Scheme.
Motability Scheme Benefits
Motability Scheme benefits include:
In addition, you can include up to three named drivers, allowing family members, friends or carers to drive the vehicle when needed.
At your local Gates dealership, we can arrange for you to view and also test drive your preferred vehicle models. Our Motability Scheme Specialists will also be able to discuss with you any special requirements that you may have.
Yes. Insurance is included for up to three named drivers. These can be family members, friends or carers, and named drivers can be added or changed during your lease if your circumstances change.
Although almost everything is included, you will be responsible for paying for the following:
Motability Scheme vehicle adaptations
There are many different types of adaptations available and depending on which you choose, they provide assistance for you whilst driving the car, accessing the vehicle or providing stowage for items such as wheelchairs or scooters. The type of adaptation required depends on your individual needs, so speak to one of our Motability Scheme Specialists who will be able to discuss this with you further and provide you with more information with regards to vehicle models that will best suit your requirements.
Many adaptations are covered by the regular payment you make monthly. At Gates, your Motability Scheme Specialist can arrange for adaptations to be made through our network of approved contacts.
Yes, this is possible. When you visit your local Gates dealership, our Motability Scheme Specialists will discuss your requirements with you and advise you on the most suitable adaptations. Adaptations are usually fitted at the start of your lease. They can also be added during your lease however, this will need to be arranged through an approved Motability Scheme adaptations installer and this may be subject to further charge.
If adaptations are fitted at the beginning of the Motability Scheme lease, they will be covered by your insurance with RSA Motability (RSAM).
Some are transferrable however, this will depend on the adaptation being suitable for your new car. Your Motability Scheme Specialist will be able to advise you further and suggest which are most suitable for your required adaptation. In most cases, there will be no extra cost to transfer an existing adaptation to your new car providing it is done at the start of the lease.
Coming To The End Of Your Lease?
When your agreement comes to its end, you will be presented with three options: return the vehicle and resume receipt of your allowance; continue using the vehicle; obtain a different vehicle via the Motability Scheme.
Please contact your local Gates dealership where one of our Motability Scheme Specialists will be able to guide you through the process.
If your order is delayed and your new car is unlikely to be delivered before the end of your current lease, the lease on your current vehicle can be extended until the new vehicle is ready. You’ll just need to make sure you’ve completed the MOT on your vehicle by the original lease end date in order for the lease extension to be approved. Your MOT test can be carried out at any of our Gates dealerships - you can make a booking here.
