The Ford Ranger M-Sport is the latest creation from the M-Sport racing team that’s responsible for running Ford’s official World Rally Championship entry. Run by ex-rally driver Malcolm Wilson, they’re experts in modified road cars.
The M-Sport is an impressive sight, with a purposeful stance that stands out on the road.
Compared to the standard model it features lots of styling upgrades, including a more aggressive front bumper, a new bonnet lip and a bespoke grille with in-set Lazer lights.
Rear privacy glass ensures the rear seats are shielded from prying eyes, and there are also chunky wheel arch extensions in matte black. This black styling is echoed on the wing mirrors, door handles, window strips, sports bars and 18-inch Graphite wheels.
Those impressive wheels are wrapped in B F Goodrich all-terrain tyres, with mud flaps also adding to the Ranger M-Sport’s extreme looks. Add the optional Off Road option pack for raised suspension, Lazer roof lights and full undertray body protection to give even more impressive off-road performance.
The interior of the Ranger M-Sport is entirely re-upholstered in luxurious black leather, including the steering wheel. It has a really chunky rim that perfectly reflects the rough-and-tumble nature of the Ranger.
Offering comfortable seating for up to five, the interior is an enjoyable place to spend time, too. That’s thanks to dual-zone air conditioning and an eight-way electrically-adjustable driver’s seat.
The Ranger M-Sport is available in either a 2.2-litre TDCi engine or a punchy 3.2-litre TDCi engine with 197bhp. It’s a powerful engine with lots of mid-range muscle, with 470Nm of torque offering explosive in-gear acceleration.
The M-Sport will sprint from 0 to 60mph in a fraction under 11 seconds, while impressively accelerating from 30mph to 70mph in a similar time. All you need to choose is whether you want a manual or an automatic gearbox.
Sporting upgrades to the exhaust system and a Pedders suspension sport pack mean it’s a brilliant drive, too. Taut handling makes it exciting to press on through corners.
The Ranger M-Sport is fitted with Ford’s SYNC 2 infotainment system. This employs an eight-inch touchscreen to control the radio and CD player, and also boasts Voice Control, a USB connection for external music devices and Bluetooth, so you can take calls safely at the wheel.
Additional home comforts include cruise control, steering wheel-mounted controls and rear parking sensors.
