2014 proved to be one of the manufacturer’s most successful years to date for industry awards. Many respected names chose Ford’s cars and commercial vehicles as their top performers, reinforcing the brand’s status as a market leader.
Inevitably, the Fiesta - multi-time winner of the UK’s best-selling model award – gained plaudits from numerous motoring magazines. CarBuyer and What Car? deemed the Fiesta ST to be their preferred hot hatch in 2014, while the standard model earned Car of the Year and Best Supermini accolades from Telegraph Motoring Awards. The vehicle picked up Diesel Car’s Small Car of the Year award for the third consecutive year, while it was also judged to be Auto Express’ Best Supermini.
The slightly larger Focus achieved two What Car? Used Car Awards for Best Used Car of the Year and Best Used Family Car, the latter coming for the fourth time in eight years.
Ford’s family models came in for plenty of praise as well. Honest John handed its Most Highly Rated Car award over to the Mondeo, while the estate shape gained a Best Used Estate accolade from What Car? The S-MAX was judged Best MPV for the seventh year running by BusinessCar, while the C-MAX was Honest John’s Best MPV for the fourth year in a row.
Vans from across Ford’s commercial vehicle range enjoyed a successful 2014, particularly the Transit. VansASZ named it Van of the Year and chose the model for its Large Panel Van of the Year award. TheVanWebsite.co.uk, Auto Express, Arctic Van Test and Fleet Van were all in agreement, handing over their own best-in-class tributes. The compact Transit Connect was deemed International Van of the Year for 2014, while the Transit Custom was celebrated for its security by Van Fleet World and its clean performance by VansASZ. VansASZ also presented the Fiesta Van with its Small Van of the Year trophy for a second year. Ford’s Ranger pick-up wasn’t left out of the compliments, either. It beat the competition to best pick-up prizes from What Van? and Van Fleet World.
On top of all of these commendations came plaudits for the brand as a whole. Best Volume Manufacturer and Best Light Commercial Vehicle Supplier titles were given at the Fleet 200 Awards. For a third straight year the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine became the International Engine of the Year as awarded by Engine Technology International. Ford was also honoured as Van Manufacturer of the Year for a second year at the Van Fleet World Honours.
