Ford’s Blind Spot Information System uses sensors on the sides of your vehicle to help you change lanes more safely. The Cross Traffic Alert technology is a more recently developed part of this system, and assists when your vehicle is in reverse and at a higher risk of a cross-traffic collision.
Cross Traffic Alert uses sensors mounted in the rear quarter panels of your vehicle to detect oncoming cars or other moving objects when you are reversing. When these are within 20 metres of you, an audible and visual warning is given to alert you of their presence. Depending on whether traffic is advancing on the left or right, a light is illuminated in the relevant wing mirror to make you aware of it.
The system is particularly effective in busy environments where slow, careful manoeuvring is necessary. It is also invaluable when you’re backing into a road and visibility is limited.
