Ford Technology – Blind Spot Information System

As one of the nation’s most loved car brands, Ford has a great range of new and exciting technologies that can enhance the performance, safety and convenience of driving. At Gates Ford based in the Essex, Hertfordshire and Middlesex, customers can explore many of the brand’s technologies and discover more about the benefits. One of the latest developments is the blind spot technology feature, designed to keep you aware of everything around you at all times.

Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) can make driving safer and help you feel more confident, particularly on the motorway. When changing lanes and driving alongside cars at speed, the blind spot often needs to be checked more than once, which can make it very difficult to make decisions. BLIS ensures that you are always aware of exactly which cars are in your blind spot.

When a car is in your blind spot, state-of-the-art sensors fitted either side of the rear bumper trigger an alert system. Once this is triggered, a special indicator located on your wing mirror on the appropriate side flashes yellow, warning you of an approaching vehicle in your blind spot. The brightness of this flash is dimmed when travelling at night.

BLIS is activated in your car as soon as the car is in forward motion and travelling over 3mph. Ensure that the rear of your model is clear of any mud, snow or equipment and not damaged in any way, otherwise this could impair the accuracy of your BLIS sensors.

When the car’s transmission is in reverse, BLIS switches to Cross Traffic Alert, and works in the same way. This is particularly helpful when reversing out of tight spaces in parking bays. Reversing slowly is the best way for your car to detect exactly what is around you. Also, you need to be aware when parked in diagonal spaces as either side of the sensor could be obstructed by a parked car.

It must be noted that BLIS is an aiding tool only, and should not be solely relied on when driving. You still need to use all your mirrors and remain cautious when changing lanes.
