Created to help you negotiate busy urban environments, Ford Active City Stop prevents low-speed collisions. In built-up towns and cities, collisions up to 30mph are a common occurrence, and this smart system is designed to minimise your chances of colliding with the car in front. It also works in long lines of traffic.
Ford Active City Stop scans the road ahead at all times to monitor for sudden changes – and, if a collision looks likely, it will apply the brakes automatically to prevent impact occurring. This intelligent system uses a special sensor array – LIDAR (which stands for light detection and ranging) – mounted at the top of the windscreen for the best possible view of what lies ahead. It scans the road up to 50 times a second for maximum effectiveness. If a vehicle stops suddenly in front of you, or if it slows down suddenly, this technology will kick in when it senses the possibility of a collision.
Did you know that one in eight car crashes across the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain is caused by rear-end shunts? This technology is designed to significantly reduce this figure, and could potentially eradicate rear collisions altogether. This system received the Euro NCAP Advanced Reward in 2011, and is now offered as standard on the Ford C-MAX, Grand C-MAX and Ford B-MAX. It’s optional with the Driver Assistance Pack on the Ford Fiesta.
