Ford enjoyed a hugely successful 2011, with a number of its models recognised by industry experts in a variety of areas.
The manufacturer’s new Mondeo started the year strongly by scooping the What Car? Best Family Car and Best Estate Car 2011 in January. The model received the same double award two years earlier, proving its enduring appeal. In September of the same year the 1.6-litre TDCi Mondeo was then named greenest family car by What Car? Another family favourite, the S-MAX MPV, was celebrated for its strengths as a fleet car in early 2011. BusinessCar judges, readers and website viewers recognised the vehicle’s style, flexibility and refreshed design for the fifth time overall. May 2011 saw a host of awards come Ford’s way. Both the Focus and Mondeo earned awards from Diesel Car Magazine who were impressed by each car’s magnificent handling and improved fuel efficiency.
The Focus also triumphed at the 2011 Fleet World Honours alongside the iconic Transit van. The hatchback won a World Safety Award, while the commercial earned the title of Best Medium Van. “When the first Transit was launched some 46 years ago, its manufacturer can’t have imagined that it would go on to be the best-selling van in the UK ever since,” commented Van Fleet World editor, John Kendall.
The ever-popular Focus’ technology helped it to claim another award from BusinessCar in August 2011. The model’s innovative Driver Assist pack, which included a low speed safety system, lane keeping aid and traffic sign recognition, impressed the motoring publication.
