Euro NCAP, an independent crash test authority, have recently introduced new, more stringent testing protocols and the All-New Focus is one of the first vehicles to be tested under these new regulations.Vehicles are judged in four main areas; Adult occupation protection, Pedestrian protection, Child safety and Active Safety features.
The All-New Focus is equipped with a multitude of driver assistance and safety features which largely contributed to the high scores that were awarded. For example, Pre-Collision Assist can detect people either in or near the road, or people who may cross the vehicle’s path ahead – this now includes cyclists as well as pedestrians. The system will automatically apply the brakes if the driver fails to respond. What is really clever is that it can even function in the dark using light from the headlamps.
In the unfortunate event that an accident was to occur, systems such as Post-Collision Braking can help reduce the impact of a potential secondary collision by slowing the vehicle down once the initial collision is detected.
The All-New Focus has been completely redesigned – and this is not just for aesthetic purposes. Ford’s All-New C2 architecture, a feature of the All-New Focus, has improved the front crash load capability by 40%. What’s more, the vehicle is now stronger with 33% of the body structure being made up of ultra-high strength boron steels.
